London Philharmonic Orchestra extends contracts with
Vladimir Jurowski and Yannick Nézet-Séguin
The London Philharmonic Orchestra is pleased to announce that both Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski and Principal Guest Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin have extended their contracts with the Orchestra.
Vladimir Jurowski started his tenure as Principal Conductor of the LPO at the beginning of the 2007/08 season and has extended his contract until the end of the 2014/15 season. “My first three seasons as Principal Conductor of the LPO have been a very happy and mutually enhancing relationship. I therefore look forward, more than ever, to the seasons ahead in which the LPO and I can continue to develop our artistic collaboration further.”
Jurowski’s rapport with the Orchestra has won widespread acclaim with audiences and critics. Hugh Canning wrote of the LPO live recording of Tchaikovsky’s symphonies 1 and 6, “these performances demonstrate the strides the London Philharmonic has made under the inspired direction of its young, Russian-born Principal Conductor.” (Sunday Times, 23 August 2009)
In September 2008, the London Philharmonic Orchestra was joined by the young Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin as Principal Guest Conductor. Hailed as one of the most sought-after conductors of his generation, he has enjoyed a highly successful collaboration with the Orchestra in the past two seasons and has extended his contract until the end of the 2013/14 season.
“The London Philharmonic is a dynamic orchestra,” comments Nézet-Séguin. “It is a reflection of the city itself, full of character, vigour and a sense of adventure, whilst deeply rooted in a great tradition. I am really looking forward to my future seasons with the LPO and it means a lot to me to be able to continue building on my relationship with these exceptional musicians.”
